| Post subject: | AM Block? |
Starting my game plan for a race motor,Have a AM motor I pulled out of my A 100,totally worn out,Wondering the difference from the BH block.Should I start looking for a BH block to build off, or just use the AM block? Will be .104 over and lots of compression.Guzzi Mark |

I don't know what an AM block is. My solution is to not worry about block type. The highest output big bore motors I've seen have been of many different years/types. IIRC, the Drake's 9.85 run was on an early 3-plug block, and Tilley has 3-plug and 5-plug motors making big HP. Best thing would be to sonic check ifyou are worried about wall thickness. However, I'm still interested in what an AM block is... I assume this is NOT in Doug's block article? Lou |

From the date codes I've seen the AM block is the immediate predecessor to the BH. |

The AM blocks are nice, no problem using one that checks-out. (no core shift, bad corrosion or cracks) BH blocks have some extra ribbing but I don't think those small, extra ribs add much strength. DD |
