hello,
is it true that on an early A-body the a arms dont have to be changed to convert to Small Bolt Pattern disk breaks??...All that is needed is the spindles....(and of course calipers and rotors..but one can get those at the store)

Is it also true that upsizing to 10 IN drum breaks only need the drums changed...nothin else???...

Yes to the first part of your question. The early four piston KH Disc brake set-up will use your current upper and lower control arms.

The 10" drum swap (through '72) will require the use of the 10" backing plate, new hoses and likely the spindle as well (in addition to the drums.) The later (73-76) 10" drum swap will require upper control arms, drums, backing plates, new hoses and spindles.

There is a lot of great info archived on the site, just use the handy "search" function. Cheers - Mike

True, the lower control arms do not have to be swapped. You will have to swap spindles and lower ball joints.

Sorry, no. The spindles and at least the lower ball joints along with nearly every other brake part is different.

Have you actually done this swap?...or is this conjecture?

Fact: The lower ball joints are different between 9" drum brake and small bolt pattern disc brakes. Fact: The lower ball joint to spindle bolts are smaller on the 9" drum spindle. The spacing between the ball joint to spindle bolt holes is also different. I have never done a 9" drum to small bolt pattern disc brake swap, but I have held the parts in my hands. This is not a guess or conjecture.

I have the parts ready to do a 9" drum to SBP disc swap. New lower ball joints are specified, and are a vast improvement in terms of safety, from what I hear. The small bolts attaching the 9" drum LBJ's are said to be a design weakness.

Said by whom? Has anyone ever seen the LBJ attachment bolts fail? There's a lot of folklore being passed around that isn't based in fact; and some of it is promulgated by self-proclaimed experts that frankly don't know what they're talking about.

Said (with zero basis in fact) by Richard Ehrenberg of Mopar Action magazine, and parroted (with zero basis in fact) by zillions of people who remember reading it.

Sandy, I did the swap on the Piggie. You do need different LBJ's, spindles, and brake assemblies. Nothing from the 9" is the same.

what about the rubber brake line for a sbp disk swap..will the stock leanth work or like the large bolt pattern disc swap, it has to be longer...

IIRC, the SBP disc takes a different line anyway. Different fitting at the caliper.
