Up here in North America, the 1975 and later slant-6s use a (physically) different spark plug from the 1974 and earlier engines. I'm not sure if that same change was made in South America. Can you show us a picture of one of your present spark plugs? Or tell us its number?

OK, so that is the same newer type of spark plug that was used in North America. I am guessing your #16 is maybe a Champion number, in which case that seems too hot. Can you get NGK spark plugs? If so, try a #UR5.
