Gents,

I picked up a newer style SL6 distributor off eBay that uses the newer style hold down piece which is elliptical. I can't get enough movement out of my recurved distributor with the stock mount when used on a stock 1980 SL6 engine which I just installed last weekend while I am rebuilding my new engine. I would like to install this elliptical piece on my recurved distributor, but what do I use for a hold down clamp? I have never seen the SL6 clamp that goes with the elliptical hold down bracket.

Will a small block V8 hold down clamp work? Or do I need to find a big block 383/440 hold down clamp?

Ted- this thread has the only pictures I have of the newer style:

I still have a newer style clamp buried somewhere in my garage. If you need me to, I can dig it out and take some measurements for you. However, you should be able to get a fairly accurate estimate of the necessary dimensions by measuring the diameter of the distributor housing where the clamp would go around it and the distance between the edge of the housing and the dist clamp bolt hole in the block. That should at least let you know if a small or big block v-8 clamp would work. Alternatively, you could fabricate your own out of some C-channel stock.

Alternatively, you could jump a tooth on the cam gear or jump the plug wires one tower in the direction you need.

UPDATE: the chrome small-block hold down sold on this page looks pretty dang close to the slant six hold down you are looking for.
