I need new ball joints for my 64 dart. I am installing a mustang rack and reversing the spindles. I am running 69dart 10" drum spindles with willwood brakes. My question is ,which ball joint would have the straightest tie rod angle that would fit this application. The Moog 785 786 appear to be the correct part but i noticed some of the b bodies have the same bolt spacing and size ( one hole 1/2 ' one 9/16) but have a longer tie rod mounting which would make easier to install the rack further forward and better tie rod angle. Also who has the best pricing,Napa wants $98 each for the 785/786

Sergio, be very careful when swapping stock LBJ's around for front steer. You will get yourself into some very bad bump steer issues.

Search on Moparts in the Race section. There was a thread about R&P A bodies a couple weeks ago. HEMIFRED posted pictures of the front end of his Sox & Martin Duster that has B body LBJ's modified to work. You need to bend the arms, and make some spacers for the tie rod ends to get it safe.

Dennis is right . Unless you bend the spindle arms to get the Akerman right....and install the rack with its centre line running between the tie rod holes it will never be right.

I see the opposite side of this in mudbogging where everyone wants to reverse knuckles to get the rack behind the axle. Luckily they just lose the ability to make low speed tight turns.

A rack in an A body should replace the centre link to get geometry right.

Thanks guys, what i am doing is very similar to Freds hemi car,i have done this conversion several times which is why i was looking for a ball joint with a longer tir rod end . i found a c body which is also straighter but would require welding and redrilling the spindle.I am not concerned with bump steer we can correct that to be minimal, the ackerman will never be correct but this is a drag only car and not that fast at that.

Hey Sergio-
I'm doing that very conversion on my '65, try the early 70/1 Dart units but it might be better to cut & weld. They're okay as they are forgings not powdered metal as some think. The MOPARTS forums have many good points but you might email Greg Anderson for pics of his early Dart. He passed along some interesting tid bits to me, call me or email and I'll forward some of his info...wb
