Can you help me identify what year this engine is. I thought I seen a chart somewhere but couldn't find it. Hopefully it is a forged crank engine.

Numbers stamped on top edge of block are: 9 225R 1 3

Articles section. Also quick glance at the water pump Area of the block. Ridges are different on the back for cast and forged.

Yes Frank, I looked there already. But I only see 3 casting numbers listed under "blocks" and none of mine are similar.

My block is a 5 freeze plug block, Drivers side block has- F 530-6 3038

Passenger side has- 6 (clock point at #8) 23

I did not see any casting numbers similar to those listed on that chart.

I'll go look again, but I thought the stamping in the top of the block identified years?

If you don't have tall/large casting numbers on the block you've likely got a cast crank engine. I think the 9 is probably 1979.

Your probably right Josh. I don't see any large casting numbers. And by the chart it has a 79-80 cylinder head casting.

since you're on the subject of engine ID...

I have a slant that I have identified as a 225 by the casting numbers (2463430) that was castin 1964, but oddly has a upside down 170 cast into the block as well. Just seems odd

No problem with cast crank motors. I just built one as a new HiPo engine for the '64 Dart. Rodney Hargis won most of his trophies running high 12s with his cast cranker that lasted several thousand passes (10,000?)and at least 5-7 yrs in his Lancer. 1st 225 motor in the 10s was a cast crank.

1979 is in the range of years that Mike Jeffrey likes best for porting an all out head too.
