Okay, I have gotten the front suspension on my brother's 74 Duster almost completely disassembled. All that is left it to get the upper control arm bushing outer shells out of the UCAs, and to get the LCA bushings and one LCA stud out of the LCAs. My problem is that I am not finding anybody in town that does this kind of work. The machine shop I go to doesn't have the adapters to press them out, and I haven't found anyone else that does front end work like this.

I tried making my own UCA bushing removal tool and had some success, until it was time to get the out shells out. Then my rod of all-thread bent in half under the force while the UCA bushing shell stayed put.

Can anyone point me to a source for the adapters to press the upper and lower control arm bushings and the lower control arm stud in and out of the control arms?

I can't believe I am having such a hard time finding someone to do this, but it looks like I might have to do it all myself.

Wow. I had the "special tools", but got tired of jacking with the LCA's and just took 'em to the local machine shop and they pressed out the old shells and pressed in the new bushings and pivots for $10 apiece... This was 5 years ago. Best $20 I can ever remember spending... Maybe try another shop?

I think I finagled the shop I normally go to to do them for me. It probably won't be cheap, but cheaper than getting the tools to do it all myself. It is getting harder to find places that will take hobbyist jobs around here...

It is getting harder to find shops that know how to do this stuff. When I was a kid the local machine shop knew how to install king pin bushings but these days you would have to dig around a bunch to find anyone who even knew what a king pin bushing was.

I made all the tools years ago to rebuild Mopar front suspensions. A bunch of tools were available from the factory then but I still had to make a bunch of things myself. With a little press and the right tools you can rebuild a front suspension very quickly. Without the right tools you might as well try teaching a pig to dance.
