I'm new to the slant6 forum and I have a question. I just finished a Clifford performance package on my engine, stuck in the car cranked it up and it runs ok. I have the 268 cam with 4 degress built in, and running the timing at 6 degress on the crank. With the engine running at 3000 rpms I am showing a 22 degree advance on the stock mopar electronic distributor that I upgrade to from the points distributor. My question is this,, what is the most advance timing I need to get this motor running to it full potential, some say 32-38 degrees advance. Another question is, do I add the 10 degees that is already there from the 4 degrees cam timing and the 6 degrees on the crank = 10 degrees, or do I set the timing at 0 degrees and get my 38 degrees that way? Seems I can't get enough advance with the mopar distributor, so I have a Mallory 4562201 on order from Jegs, maybe this will give the advance timing I need..I just need to know how to determine the advance timing.

Clifford has a bad rep here. Do you KNOW what you installed? By that do have any paperwork on the cam and what else did they sell you? We can most likely help you if you got any documentation.

Target 30 degrees total advance (not 32-38 )
Cam timing has nothing to do with the total distributor advance.

With the info given..., advance your current distributor from the current 6 degrees to 14 BTDC and see how it runs.
If the slot on the distributor plate does not let you advance to 14, loosen the bolt on the under-side if the plate.

Hi Frank the cam is a 268 with a duration of 222 degree @ .050 exhaust and intake, 047 valve lift with 110 lobe center. I also installed the clifford intake with the water inlet and outlet ports, headers, and had the head sent out to them and they installed bigger valves shaved the head to a 9.5-10.0 compression, and installed their 1.6 rockers, exhaust and intake ported. I also but a 2500 stall converter. The bottom end is stock (225 ci). I put the 390 holley 4 barrel. I am running it at 4-6 degress BTDC but it seems to be running fat. Let me know what you thinking
