hello. have a chance to get a 8 3/4 this weekend and would like to know how to id if its a sure grip... thanks, andy.

Turn an axle. If the other axle spins in the opposite direction it's not a Sure-Grip.

What Joshua Skinner said. If it's a sure-grip: with the rear wheels off the ground, if one rear wheel is turned the other rear wheel will turn in the same direction.

well, not a sure grip. another guy bought a 73 satellite w/o eng trans and some parts for 500 bucks. i could buy the 8.75 assembly from him. what would be a decent price. it looks pretty rough, probably need overhauled. or should i just put my money in the 8.25 in my 84 D100. thanks, andy.

'73 Satellite could have an 8 3/4, but it's more likely an 8 1/4 if it was a 318 car. Also, they have the iso-clamp rear spring mounting which won't directly fit a pickup even if the pads are mounted in the proper location which they probably are not. The Satellite rear end is also about 1 3/8" narrower than your existing axle.
