I am looking for a few more ways to free up some HP and high rpm reliability. Is there any power to be gained by widdling down the crank a few pounds before the final balance? What about the rods? Thanks!

I, too, have kind of wondered if there would be any thing to be gained by knife-edging the crank. If so, how would that affect the balance. The crank is extremely beefy. What material (and from where) could be removed without adversely affecting the strength?
I don't know about the rods, though. I've heard good things about the rods, but they don't look like there's much excess material on them.

i hope doc reposts that pic of his lightened crank, i think he said about 10-12lbs. can be removed from it...

Here is that PIC, this is a Cox crank, tons of work into that unit and it was not done right.
There is a PIC of one I did in the HRM SlantSickness article posted here.

Most should just use "common sense" to grind-off all the ragged / ugly edges off a crank and then remove the big "balance lumps" the factory used as "drilling points" for the balance, there are 6 of these that can be removed for a few more lbs of reduction.
