Well guys the slanty is in pieces and in need now of a rebuild,, I have decide to go with a holley 350 set up and do away with the factory looks,, I have also decide to put a nice cam in,, I am not after huge power,, I am after reliability first and foremost,, The car is only a cruiser after all,, I have my list here of whats needs to be done,,

First question is what cam would you suggest as I want to get it before I send the motor of to the shop for all the grinding,, cleaning,, fitting of bits and pieces,,

I am at the stage were I can go in either direction cam wise,, so what would you suggest!!

Have you looked at the Erson cam group buy? You can find it here at http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21400 and the catalog is here http://go.mrgasket.com/pdf/ChryPlyDodge.pdf I've personally considered using the E470301 cam (.435"/.435" lift and 254/254 duration) for my build up, people have said good things about them.

By the way, don't forget to do some head work, else all else will be somewhat in vain.

Welcome, first off for everyone to help you the best they can come up with a plan and list of goals. what you would like your car to do that it does/doesn't do now. a budget for your build. some more info on your car will also be helpful. do you want low end torque, mileage, high end horsepower? what kind of rpm limit your thinking. future upgrades. all this will help us narrow down parts and a plan that will get you right where your thinking.

Ok,, well the car is a 1969 Valiant Coupe (Australian) this is her..

I pulled the motor out the other day as it was blowing smoke and my assumption of a broken ring was true,, It has also been confirmed that this is the original motor,, so its time for a rebuild,,

I am after a nice cam,, and a two barrel 350 holley or something simular,, I am not after huge amounts of power,, Have other cars for that,, I want some thing reliable,, not to thirtsy on petrol,, My budget is around $2500 for machining,, cam,, head work,, etc,, and probably another $1000 to tidy it up to look something like this,,

Image or Image

I think this is achievable

first off beautiful car. Your budget sounds very doable. what for transmission and rear are under your car? also check under the faqs in the engine section for engine build matrix. aggressive teds build may be what your looking for. or maybe a little more cam and compression. i personally like the erson 280/270 cam with around 10.5 compression. also the more detailed questions the better the answers will be.

I'm no cam expert, far from it, so someone correct me if I've got this wrong, but that cam looks like it could use more lift. :?

So you want to go milder than the cam in the wagon Sly?

Looks like that cam has long/slow clearence ramps. 290 adv duration, and 220 @50 duration, and only 404 lift. That cam is pretty mild.
