Once again, I am faced with repairing the transmission in my brother's van. I am going to do a rebuild myself since the local shop wants $1k to rebuild it, not including removal and installation from the vehicle.

So, nobody in my town sells the front clutch pack compressor tool. Has anyone here come up with a home-brewed equivalent? Looking at the tool in my shop manual it appears to be something I could put together with scrap metal and some bits form the local home improvement store. Should I try or will I poke my eye out?

:?

Thanks.

We have one like this at the school I attend. Could be made.

This type would be easier to make or cheap enough to buy.

$1k to rebuild it.....are they nuts? Maybe they are doing torrington bearings, billet drum or something like that?

Can't have more than $100 in parts.

There are NOS units on ebay for $350.00

Hmmmm. Good point about the NOS units. I have the rebuild kit in the garage with all the new parts necessary, which is one reason why I am wanting to do this myself. But I will look into the eBay unit. I can't tell you how tired I am of doing transmission work on this van...
