 Post subject: ballast or no ballast

:) hello just bought a 1965 dart 225 last summer been driving fine till the coil went out.i have a pertronix ign (so i'm told cause no points)i would like to know if i need the ballest or do i get a internal res coil and just splice the wires together at the old ballest. all new to this stuff thank you very much for any help jay ps whats the diff between 1.5 ohm coil or 3.0ohm coil ? and which one do i buy thanks much

I use the 3.0 Pertronix coil with the pertronix ignition and NO ballast...

No problems. 8)

And NO ballast to go bad. :wink:


BTW, I talked to a Pertronix engineer about having the 1.5 and ballast vs the 3.0 and NO ballast.... He said he would use the 3.0 and NO ballast with their ignitor.

wow thanks Ed,ok so the 4 wires at the old ballast just butt connect them together.and red wire to + and black wire - at coil on the new 3.0

Yes, that is correct! I run the same setup, a 3 ohm Pertronix 60,000 volt HEI type HV coil but still using a old orange Mopar ECU and stock 74 distributor. Just jumper or solder the wires together. :)
