The floorboard near the transmission hump in my 76 Valiant seems to get overly hot....basically, right where my right foot rests while working the gas pedal.

I have some Dynamat that I can slap down there and kill the heat, but I'm more concerned about whether or not this is normal....maybe the transmission is getting too hot.

Anyone else experienced a hot floorboard?

Is the exhaust stock? Someone could have hacked in a piece too close to the floor? Headers? Beat motor mounts messing up the engine position?

I wouldn't think the trans could get hot enough to heat up your foot through an inch or more of moving air, sheetmetal, carpet and underlay/deadener?

Gotta be the exhaust pipe. Get under there and check it out.

Oh, and you do know the heater outputs right there by your feet right? Got a leaky heater box or anything?

Good luck and don't burn down your car!

Thanks for the hints.

The exhaust is bone stock....extremely stock....as in....original 1976 equipment.

Maybe I should just remove the cat.....I need to check to be sure, but I'm pretty sure it would be legal here in Texas eliminate it.
