Hey guys I am putting my engine together and cant tell from the book how to put the main caps on. The engine is upside down right now so do the numbers go on the fuel pump/dist side or on the intake side. Thanks for the help I dont want to mess up before I get started.

Numbers to the cam side.
The best thing to look at are the notches for the bearing tabs, the tabs in the caps go on the same side as the notches in the block.

Do a trial assemble if at all in doubt... the caps should easily fit into the recess and the bearing bore will be smooth where the cap meets the block... the cap bolts should thread-in with your fingers... don't force anything together.

Thanks Doc. I did try both ways and they dont seem to sit quite right either way. The dart book says the holes are offset a bit but they look the same to me. My aged eyes couldnt tell the difference. I wont force anything. What prelube do you recommend for the assembly and do you condone the painting of the head & block to seal the steel? My mechanic recommended glyptol? I think thats the name. Thanks for the help. You ROCK
