My 62 Valiant stopped running abruptly this morning. Thought it might be the timing chain so I was going to pull the distributor cap when I saw that the coil wire had just burned in half. Has anybody else ever had this happen? Does it indicate a problem? I had a relatively new Summit wire set on the car probably 4 or 5 years old. I have been running a MSD 6AL for about the same time with a stock coil.

My guess is the MSD puts out a lot of current and the extra amperage caused the coil wire to burn. Sort of like too small a fuse in a load line.

If the stock coil is hot when you run it for a while the 6al is a bit too much. Hot coil hot wires. Well you know of what I speak. I did have something simular happen because of an improper ground on the box.
Shouldn't be too hard to sort out if the coil is getting warm.
