After checking just what light spring I have installed to control mechanical advance, I discovered that my notes were not correct, and have a black spring (strongest), not green installed.

After consulting the “Degrees of Advance vs. rpmâ€￾ chart by spring color provided with the spring kit, I have a question as to just what multiple spring plots imply.

The black spring plot: advance starts @ 1400 rpm, picks up 2 deg. Per each additional 200 rpm.

Than the plot splits to two plots at 1800 rpm, and 4 deg of advance: black shows a steeper rate of increase. Than there is a slower advance plot labeled “G + BLâ€￾, or Green + Blue springs, and here lays my question.

Dose this mean green spring on one post & blue spring replacing heavy long loop spring on the other post, or somehow both blue & green springs attached to same post opposite the long loop spring?

Yes, those are results of the two different spring combination's. No, on both springs on the same post......one for the primary the other goes on the secondary replacing the heavy long looped spring.

Ted,

That is what I thought, no doubling up, but I needed to have a second opinion to clear that brain fart. Thanks.

I’m wondering if I should hold any mechanical advance back until 1600 rpm instead of the one black & HD long loop spring the starts advancing at 1400 rpm now in use.

Bill
