Hey guys.
Just wanna ask a quick question. Whenever i shift from park to drive or park to reverse; the idle drops by about 4-500 rpms. Im not sure if this is normal so any advice would help. Is there a way to stop this or is this just how these old cars run???

Putting a load on the engine, such as putting it in gear or turning on the a/c, will drop the engine RPM. 400-500 RPM seems excessive though, since your RPM in neutral should be between 750-800 RPM.

If your idle is set at 800-900 rpm in park afew hundred rpm
drop is normal as the engine loads up. If the car stalls
before you give it gas. Not correct idle speed. If your idle
speed is as above. Go thru tuneup and maybe carb also verifiy
that vaccum advance is working.
