Post subject:  rotating assembly being balanced, new pistons

years ago i built my slant and had the crank checked for balance and had the machinist press the rods and pistons together and put the bottom end together. i just recently ordered some new custom pistons, and i'm wondering if i will need the rotating assembly rebalanced or checked by a machinist.

The crank and rods should be fine. If all the new pistons are equal in weight you're good to go.

I balanced all mine because it was a shop rebuild before. I'm glad I did, the crank was 16 g out and the rods were 12 g out heaviest to lightest(mismatched rods). I got the rods within 1g h to l and 2g end to end. I had my machinist recheck them too, I think he said I did better than what I thought. Rods are not hard to check weights and I made my own balancer. I had the crank balanced and polished for $50.
