What I know:
Clifford Alum Valve Cover
New looking springs and retainers
Offy intake with 1406 Edelbrock with COAT HANGER throttle linkage that opens about 1/2 way.
Long tube headers
Mini starter
Rumpy-rump cam.
8-3/4 axle
Has sway bars front and rear
Disk brakes with power booster

What I don't know:
What's inside the engine-
what cam, pistons, compression, valves, etc.

What I was told:
'Spose to have 3:91 gears
'Spose to be a 727 TF

How it runs:
Lousy, lazy on bottom, my stocker seems much stronger. Pulls pretty hard on top but shifts back out of powerband.

I have a lot of investigating to do. I got the car for its parts to use on my '63. I plan to pull the engine and pull the head and pan and just see whats in there. Interesting project anyway.

As far as the trans goes, look down at the base of the dipstick, If the corner of the pan is square it's a 904. If it has a kick-out it is a 727.

Thanks Zilla, I will look at that.
I adjusted the valve to .018 intake and .022 exhaust and she runs a bit stronger now. We shall see.

Where are you located? Are you planning on getting rid of the car? Dank10Fenny on the board here is looking for Valiant front clip parts.

He is rolling around the Portland area somewhere IIRC...

Sounds like too much cam combined with not enough static compression. (low DCR)
Keep loosing the valve lash until it clatters, then tighten-up a touch to make the noise go away.

Can you get a cranking compression reading?

OK, took her for a drive and got her good and warmed up. Came back and loosened all the rockers per Doc's instructions. Checked compression warm on same cylinder only got 140. Seems I am bleeding off my compression. I guess I will yank it next and see what's going on.

Or too tight of a converter.

Yup, could be both. I did drive it with the valve lash opened up to the max and the low end power improved noticeable, no doubt that helped.
