Hi All,

Searched the board but struggled to find an answer. What size bolts should hold the water pump to the block?

My engine seems to have all kinds and sizes, possibly due to a 'fix' at some point in the past.

Also, can anyone suggest a method for getting a really stubborn bolt out (that horrible little one, right at the bottom of the pump) when it is seized solid and for some reason, despite having all the corners intact, none of my sockets (metric or imperial) fit?

Thanks in advance guys,
60 Ply

All original bolts securing water pump require a 9/16â€￾ US wrench.

Could have someone used a Whitworth bolt after braking off the original?

3/8 - 16 UNC threads, with a 9/16 hex head, the SL6 water pump uses 2 different lengths, 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 long.

There are many "tricks" to get stuck bolts loose but one of the better ones is to heat the bolt to "red-hot", let it cool some, hit it with wax to cool it the rest of the way, then attempt removal.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies!

Yeah, I reckon that a few of the bolts are probably of various odd sizes that were cut into the engine at some point in the past - one of the bolt heads would only fit a metric spanner. I may be stuck with that if this is the case.

I forgot about the wax trick, I've read about that a few times, will have to give that a bash later, that bolt's a little difficult to get to. Do you use candle wax, bees wax, any wax?
