Post subject:  engine id

I have just bought a car that had a slant six out into it. i can not see the engine number and there is no id marks that i can see to tell me what they model is or what the year is. can anyone give info as to how i can id the motor, only thing i know is that it has a one barrel carb

Several spots to look for casting & other [url=http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=31] numbers[/url] are:

Above freeze plugs on left side of block

On top of machined surface of block protruding out from under head below plug # one behind alternator.

Under valve cover between valve springs and driver’s side of head.

Transmission & rear-end will have numbers stamped and or cast on them as well.

Additionally one can tell if engine is a 170cid. by measuring short coolant hose between water pump & head. If it is about 1" it's a 170cid., if it is about 3" it could be either 198cid. or 225cid.

i found the engine number, it is 28107188 does that give me any info on the engine type or year of the engine anything else tnx

The numbers will be hard to find, clean the dirty goo off and you should be able to read them.
