| Post subject: | 2280 Carb |
I spent all day yesterday installing a 2280 2 barrel on my new 85 truck. The carb was bought at Carlisle and looked almost new, but that is all I know about it. It was extremely clean inside and out. I just basically looked inside for anything obviously wrong and put it back together. I bolted everything up and it fired right up. I adjusted the idle mixture screws and took her for a spin. Wow! what a difference a 2 barrel made. Everything seems to work well except for at idle. I appears to have a miss while it is in gear at idle. I didn't notice it at first in neutral but whenever I dropped it gear and the idle slowed down it is pretty bad. As soon as the throttle is opened just a bit it smooths right out. So I'm thinking it is something to do with the carb. I have the HEI ignition on this truck and new cap rotor and plugs. No smog pump or EGR installed either. To be honest I ran out of time to do any more to it last night but I will work on it Monday for sure. I want to reset the timing and double check for any vacuum leaks..etc. But is there something obvious that I need to look at on the carb? I did look at the video that Dan posted a link to and it is good but i still need some guidance. I also have the article that Doc recommended on the 2280 Thanks to all you experts out there !!!! Found leaks at the base of the carb and one bad one at the vacuum tree. After I fixed those she idles like a baby. I will post a note about my homemade kick down linkage. It may help someone else. Rick |
