Anyone know of anywhere with kits specific for dodge trucks? (with sl6)
Or possibly just kits specific for the 6.

I'm specifically looking to replace a/c system in my 83 dodge d150 (was an a/c truck ,but everything has been ripped out by previous owner). I was hoping to find a replacement kit or a conversion kit to a more modern system, but other than universal kits, no luck.

Thanks

The universal kits are not a bad deal. I installed a Vintage Air system in my '73, and it was fairly easy to install. I had to cut the dash and fabricate ducts, which was the hardest part, but you have that job already done.

If the previous owner left the compressor mounting bracket in place, you can eliminate the second hardest part of the job.

What exactly is missing? There is a great deal of standardization across the D series and you may be able to find the parts you need at a junkyard very cheaply and easily.

The compressor and brackets from any slant six powered vehicle can be used, but you might want to contact board member Charlie_S to get some adaptors to mount later style more efficient compressors. If you have all the underdash equipment then repairing the system should be very easy.

If the factory A/C parts are still under/in the dash, it is very easy to upgrade everything under the hood.

I believe I have all the inside components. Mostly firewall forward is missing, and I guess really mainly just the condensor and hoses. I have the compressor and the hose from it to the dash, and the drier and it's hose back to the dash. What's gone looks to be in between compressor and drier including hoses.

I have my factory service manual, but I'm disappointed in the lack of info in it on the a/c (and lack of pictures/diagrams). Is there any other good reference material for d150 a/c systems?

Thanks

The factory service manual is probably the best there is for your specific truck. You can order a new condenser and hoses for your stock application and be back in business. Now is when you also replace all the seals and the oil in the compressor sump to run the new R-134 or whatever they are on these days for refrigerant.

Sounds like you are about $500 away from have an all new converted A/C system.
