My cousin told me about a Clark Cortez that might be available real cheap.I was thinking about looking at it for the engine, but Other than the crankshaft being good for a build, the rest is not ment for a performance oriantated build, right? or am I wrong? I am interested in looking at the 4 speed also. My cousin used to own this thing, and told me it was way cool, back in the late 80's and into the 90's.....but I dont know what is left of it now.

If its in any kind of decent shape I would keep it as a MH. They are getting rare and parts are in demand. If I found one close to me I would use it. I really is just a run of the mill slant as far as the actual slant goes.

Andrew, We owned a 1967 Clark Cortez for 12 years. Sold it 2 years ago. The engines, if original, were industrial models with good cranks and heads. Trans is from a Clark forklift, 4 speed granny gear 1st, and front wheel drive. They handle great because of very low center of gravity, but very underpowered. You will creep in 2nd gear up a 4% grade. Body is all steel and they rust from the inside-out. We had great times in ours but the Half Moon Bay salt air got to it. Sold it for $1000 with 5 nearly new load range E radials. It had 68,000 original miles.

Didn't know what it was so I googled it. Wow, now I want one of those. I'll be needing a mid sized camper in a few years.

Hey Kidd, if you end up with this thing and dont want the intake/carb I would be interested. The set up while not the most performance oriented is still kinda cool once you consider the weirdness factor. Anyway, good luck with this. Hell, ya never know a retro motor home all fixed up would be way cool as well. All the best, Wayne.

I'm with you wvenable, I am definitely interested in that intake/carb too. I've got some ideas for one and need an example to work with.

"Jim Krantz purchased the tooling, spare parts, and a few unfinished units around 1980 and moved operations to Lafayette, La. There, under the name Cortez Inc., he sold parts, serviced coaches, and performed drivetrain conversions on Clark models using the Kent drivetrain. One unit was produced in 1989 and is still in use. Operations ceased in Lafayette around 1990"

I called Jim Krantz 2day. he's 79, sold all parts , has tooling, has two olds powered units for sale , non finished $16K for the pair. said he wanted to drive one across America and go fishing, but says he's to old now.
nice guy.

Had a friend that used to have an Olds powered one.

Don't the slants use a side draft intake?
