I did a search and could not find this. I need to remove the trans pilot bearing from the end of the crank. It is not in the flywheel but at the end of crank. I need some tricks / advice that works for removing this. I am ready to start bolting trans, and new clutch with pilot bearing so it has to go!!

A simple old trick is to fill the bushing full of grease, then with a shaft the same diameter as the end of the input shaft, you hit the shaft (trying to drive it in) with a hammer.
The grease will not compress and will force the bushing out, or you can use a bushing removal tool.

There are 3 ways to accomplish this task:

1) Fopar's way works good, especially if you have an old input shaft lying around from anotehr tranny you can beat on with a 5 lb dead blow hammer...(junkyard 3 speeds used to be good donors...)
2) You can buy a pilot bushing puller from a tool store (this assumes you will use it more than once (I've used my harbor freight one 3 times in 10 years...)
3) The caveman procedure says you can score it with a die grinder or sawzall blade or split it with a cold chisel and pry it out (do not nick the crank bushing cavity).

#1 is pretty slick if you have the items on hand
#2 at harbor freight is about $10.99
#3 I've done and is not easy to accomplish, and definately is a lot of time and sweat.

4) Cut some threads in the bushing, screw in a bolt as far as you can, and use a puller.(homemade version of #2) :D

Thanks everyone! Great suggestions. I heard of the grease and driving a drift pin or old shaft in.I will have to check on the puller from Harbor Freight the store is not to far from me
