I've been trying to chase down oil leaks on this thing, and first, I had a maimed valve cover gasket (my fault) and then some loose pan bolts, and now... the plate cover on the oil pump is leaking... bad. The bolts are all tight, but it seems to leak real bad when the motor's cold and then slow down when its warm.

Anyway, was thinking of changing it and wondering if there's any replacement pumps I should avoid.

engine is a 77, I believe.

Thanks

Behind that cover plate is a very thin O ring, it might be getting hard from old age and is softening as it get warm.

Where would you get a replacement o-ring?

Don't know it it available as a single piece, but the "O" ring is included in a engine overhaul gasket set. Most people never use it. Someone should have an extra, laying aroung. I might even have one. If you can't find one, send me a PM.

I just looked, mine appears to have a paper gasket....???

Might be wise just to change the whole thing.

edit

upon re-examination, I'm not sure anymore.

i have the same problem...

the o ring needs replaced and i cant find them anywhere. the oil pump is practically new so i hate to change it out for a 10 cent o ring . . . .

if i ever get this fixed i will continue the struggle with my other oil leak around the head gasket. i have read and tried all the ideas from the other threads on this site but so far no luck. VERY frustrating

Fel - Pro 13338

Also fits small block oil pump - and other applications.

Jegs has it for 3 bucks.
