Look at what the previous mechanic did (before I took the car)

This is the old carb (Solex) setup ... check out the flange...

ImageImage

He ground and welded the original setup and put the new carb with the flange Fwd-Aft orientation. Original Holley 1920 should be left to right.

Now I have to grind the weld off and see if I can install the 1920 the correct way! Errr...

Just makin' sure, the 1920 Holley carb is supposed to be installed directly on the manifold with the supplied gasket only, and not using any gasket sealant. Am I right?

Thanks

Syed

Yes. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like you can unbolt the adapter that was put on the manifold and mount the carb using the factory bolt holes.

Reed, he is going to need to cut the weld first.

Oh, I couldn't tell from the pictures where the weld was. Ugh, what a mess.

Well... at least the intake itself should be re-usable (just thinking positive out of this mess)

What on earth would he have gained by running the Solex? It's like he spent lots of time building a machine that would continually smack him in the head.

My dad had a 2bbl Solex on his Opel Kadette, it was fritzy & unstable- generally a PIA to work on.
