Just wanted to get an idea of where your settings are for those of you with a 500avs. Mine as of now is:

primary - base
secondary- base
needle- .068 x .052
spring- pink
acc pump- middle

My timing is 16* init + 16* mech with no vac on Mallory diz.
268 cam .016in .018ex

I'm running an Edelbrock performer 1404, but they should be close if not the same Carb.

Primary - base
Secondaries - 1 step up
Needles - Base
Accelerator - outer hole
Orange springs

Timing 18* initial, 9* mechanical (I believe), not sure on the vacuum. Still have to map it. But she runs great!

My 500avs is setup like this:

primary: 3 steps richer
secondary: 2 steps richer
step up spring: 7.5hg
needles: base
accelerator pump: base
secondary valve spring: 3 full turns past no resistance

Ignition setup:

initial: 10* BTDC
total: 31.5* all in at 3000 rpms
vacuum advance hooked up and setup to eliminate surging.

The car runs great, best time of 8.31 in the 1/8 mile and 20mpg at 3000 rpms.

Sounds rich but I'm guessing elevation has something to do with that?

Have you checked your float level?

It should be 7/16 from the air horn gasket.

Don't "assume", in mine the floats weren't adjusted correctly and the inlet needles leaked. Either of which would cause a "rich" carburetor.

Same here.... Mine measured out at 7/16 without the airhorn gasket. Instructions with the Carb say to hold the gasket in place and use a 7/16 drill bit to gauge float height.

The float level was way out no where near 7/16. I set the floats and it seems to be a lot better. Bit more tuning and she should be running a bit better. Thanks fellas.
