Just cranked up the old slant and got NOTHING from my oil pressure gauge. There is plenty of oil and this gauge has worked without problems up until now (no intermittent dropouts, etc.) How do I test Oil Pressure sending unit without running the engine? If I in fact have no oil pressure, is there another way to tell?

Do you know if it's an electric or mechanical gauge?

Electric gauges have a wire coming off the sending unit, mechanical ones have a small plastic or metal tube.

Test the electronic type by grounding the end of the wire, the guage should go to "H" or max reading. Many times the wire falls off or breaks with these.
Mechanical types, I just screw-in a different guage to test pressure. I have a test guage just for that purpose and use it when there is any sign of oil pressure trouble.
