Anyone whitch of the two wires on the old pre '70 single ballast resistor goes to i1 and i2, or how to test them? Also what is i1 and i2? My guess is one is start and the other is run? but I am not certain of that. Thanks.

Ok from the diagrams I have in my shop manuals, it looks like i2 is start and i1 is run. Are these even used on the old style ignition? If so I can't find them on my wiring diagram the two wires on the ballast goes as follows.

terminal 1
one wire to the + coil
one wire to a bulkhead connector labeled as connection Q

Terminal 2
one wire to the voltage reg and then to the alternator
one wire to the the same bulkhead conector labelled as N

Anyone know if Q or N is start and run? and if so which is which?

I am guessing that Q goes to i2 and N goes to i1 becuase in the single ballast resistor diagrams found here have the pos coil connection connected with the i2. Thats how I am gonna wire it. if anyone knows for sure please post here as I am starting this today. :) I'll wire it all up and check back here before I crank it as I don't want to blow anything up. :)
