i'm putting in a pair of bucket seats from a mid 90's mustang. i wanted to reinforce the floor with some sheet metal around the mounting points for the seats. i have some 5x5 squares and was thinking about welding them to the floor.
my question: Is it necessary to weld the 5x5 squares to the floor? also, should i put them on the top side or bottom side of the floor? which would give me the better result?

Why is the rum always gone?

I think you'd get more strength by putting them on the bottom. Isn't that where the factory put them? But I don't think they need to be as large as 5" square. Look underneath your car and see what's there now (I'm at work and don't have access to my car right now).

Put them on the top. You will probably have to trim them to fit around the contours of the floor anyway.

I'd run em on top, then from underneath use a large fender washer to sandwich the floor for a bit more strength. The fender washer could also be tacked into place.
