I'm planning on pulling the small block out of my 72 Dart bracket car this coming summer and putting a Slant in. Can this be done with out changing the k frame?

If you have some sheetmetal and a welder it could be done. The market has always been geared for tearing our engine out and putting in a V-8. No one has had much interest to make a kit to do the reverse as of yet. So you can swap a K-member or make some adaptor mounts up.

Good Luck,

I have always had a intrest in racing a slant plus I have a handicapped daughter so If I slow down to the 14 sec zone she can ride with me at the track. A experince the kid loves when I used to take her to my local outlaw track. But I would like to come up with some kidda mount system instead of a k frame change

Yes, Edd Jesiolowski (sp?) was making these "elephant ears" motor plates a while back, quite reasonably. I bet it wouldn't be too hard to fab up from spacer plates/brackets to mount the Slant on a V8 K. The pass side might actually be a bolt in, but driver side will be a little tougher.

There are a few Slant 6 racers in Pittsburgh area, so it might be good to hook up with those guys. Greg Ondayko is the main dude.

Welcome!

Lou

It is pretty easy to make a pair of special engine mount brackets to allow for V - 8 to SL-6 swapping.
You have the right K-frame for it... the V -8 one with the "lower" driver's side mounting position.
The last one of these I did was on my 68 B-cuda. (pictured below)
That car had the later V -8 "spool mount" K-frame in it, and we ran big blocks, small blocks and the SL6 in the same car, using special brackets.
It was always fun to go to the track after running the SL6... then swapping the BB into the car, people would wonder how you got 3 seconds out of the car... during the week in-between.

I actually thought the drivers side was the same on a slant k frame as a small block k frame I thought the difference was on the passengers side.
Is this correct?

On a 72, the drivers side is up & and in-board on a SL6 K-frame.

I have one of Edd's plates and could bring it to M-D for people to handle, if someone's interested.
