Here is my old dash: (note the pushbutton AM radio)

and here is my current dash: (note the toggle switch on the right where the old radio was, thats my "Hi-beam/Lo-beam switch instead of the old foot switch)

My question:

Should I fit the old radio (which is not working) or fabricate a blankin' plate and blank-off the hole, paint it the same gloss black and have a more cleaner look?

Any suggestions or comments on this are welcome :)

Syed

I like music,, so if was me I would fix or replace the radio,
There are shops that can install modern (AM-FM-satellite-USB) workings behind the OE style face plates, to maintain the vintage look..

I like music and NPR, so I need a radio. I also like not having my radio stolen. Have you considered leaving the dash empty and installing the radio in an overhead console?

I had no trouble finding a SAM manual for the old AM radios and found that they were generally easy to fix unless the output transformer was fried; then I couldn't find a replacement. The most common problem is a dead power transistor, and those are very easy to replace.

The thing is, i rarely listen to music/radio when i drive - the engine is my radio.

Secondly, there are no AM stations anymore here in Malaysia, so even if the radio works, I cant listen to anything.

I was more interested on what to do with the hole for the old radio - put the non-working old radio in there or blank off the hole.

Thanks for commenting though, appreciate it.

i say put the radio back. if it's just a matter of looks, i'd say any little bit of "architecture" is better than a flat plate......

Cool idea Reed, when the top goes down, it becomes a hidden radio… LOL

Delete plate or Original AM radio, and put a Good Stereo in the Glove Box.

Whoops! I forgot your car was a convertible.

You could put gauges in the old radio hole.

Thanks - it never occurred to me that there might be no AM in your area! I have a FM->AM converter box in my '71 just for nostalgia's sake.

Put the old radio back in there. Unless the car is a drag car, radio delete plates look tacky IMO. Nothing looks better in that hole than the original radio.
