I will be adding a leaf to the factory four leaf rear springs in my brother's Duster. The "new" leafs will be coming out of the spring packs I took off my brother's 83 Dodge van. The van leafs are the same width as the Duster leafs, so I should be able to unbolt the Duster packs, slide in the van leaf, and install a new grade 8 bolt to hold the spring packs together.

My concern is the little metal strap that goes around the ends of the spring packs. Adding a leaf will make the metal strap too short to be reused. Can I just leave it off? Is there a source for a new strap the right length?

Any input is appreciated.

I bought some a few years back for a Nova I had. I believe they were Rancho Brand for Jeeps and Trucks.
