What spindle is needed to convert my 64 valiant 9 inch drum to the K-H 4 piston brake set up and is the upper control arms and ball joints the same?

You need the '66-'72 disc brake spindle. The upper ball joints appear to be the same, but the lower ball joints are different.

If you really want good braking, I highly recommend the 11.75" Mopar rotors on the stock BBP spindle with either Wilwood or Viper calipers. KH's work well, but hard to get parts and inferior braking and heat resistance to the big boys. I have run both.

Thanks for the replys. Lou I have a little trick up my sleve I was thinking about trying. Using mopar 66-72 spindle, 65-66 mustang drum brake hub, a hub centric ring and 2005-2010 mustang gt 12.5" rotors and calipers. I found the guys on for abodies only using the mustang k-h rotors and it got me thinking, so I got in touch with some big mustang guys and found out when converting from drum to discs the spindles are the same and even use the same bearings as the mopar k-h disc. I can buy new drum hubs and the hub centric ring to run my new cobra wheels, all I would need to build is the caliper brackets. Now if I can only get my hands on theh 66-72 spindles and try it out.

After a junk yard run to Desert Valley auto parts I managed to get my hands on a pair of 73+ spindles so I may visit a machinest and have them turn 73+ rotors down to mount the 12.5" gt rotors. I still want to try out the mustang drum hub and see if it works so maybe my budys duster will be a test subject. This could be an option for the guys who have the k-h set up and want to upgread to something better or diffrent parts to use because the old k-h rotors and calipers are getting so hard to get now adays. And then again I could be crazy and it won't work at all.

I would use the '73+ drum spindle and cut down some rotors for the hubs. This gets you the bigger upper ball joint and the more common and less expensive lower ball joint. I did this when I rolled together disc brakes with 11.75x1.25" rotors for my '66 Barracuda. I was lucky because I got the spindles and donor brake rotors (factory uni-cast) free.
