Well, I should be ready for some faster racing this year!
I added a locker, bigger valves / Decked the block .100", Ported and polished head, Added windage tray, etc.

Last year could only go 17.2

I am planning to go to the Columbus and Hamilton OH Events sponsored by Cox Brothers. Also Might make it to bristol. If anyone can give me specifices on the brisol race PM Me! I cant make it for friday, but Is it worth the nighttime drive to make it for Sat and Sun??

It sounds like we won't be racing 'heads up', but I'm go for Thursday test-and-tune.

Rear end is installed, but still need to finish brakes. I would feel lucky to shave a half second from last years best of 18.96

I've got front end work to finish before making any long interstate trips, and I suspect that the selector shaft seal is what's causing the puddle on my garage floor. Will I ever be done?

Last I talked to Brian, he had some trouble with shipping of some performance equipment. I haven't heard if he's got it worked out yet. He was pretty mad.(I would be too.) I think it will keep him slower this year than he expected.

Greg,

The Bristol race is on Sunday, with practicing and a pretty good show/drags on Sat too. The pits are sweet there (best dragstrip I've ever been to), with showers and everything, so it's easy to camp there if you do that kind of thing. I have gone the last 3 yrs, but have another commitment this year. The Drakes will be there, and most/all of the TN, NC, and GA Slanters.

I plan on making Columbus, so hopefully we can meet up there.

Excellent smoker pic!

BTW, looks like you need more air in your tires, if those are other burnout marks on your driveway.

Lou

Next Week I will see all of you @ Columbus.

At Bristol, My best time was a 15.55 - Unfortunately it was during the first round of slant six eliminations - and I had been running 15.75-15.76 all morning, with slower reaction times. So I dialed in a 15.75 - Ihad shaved.3 off my reaction time and I went too fast and did not make it to the next round.

I had a lot of fun, and it was great to talk to all the other slanters there.

Last night I took my car to test n tune - I ran a 15.25 - Best time ever - on my first run.

There were a total of 6 runs I got. On run # 6 the oil light came on 1/2 way down the oil light came on - so I shut it down.

Not sure if i will race now at columbus - but I will still be there - Have to buy some parts off Lou.

I will pull it apart today to see what is going on.

Greg

To answer the last question:
I would guess it is somewhere between 9.75 - 10, but I cannot confirm.

I never cc'd the heads or anything like that.

Clutch explosion update / pics
Over the summer I was making a pass at test n tune at Pittsburgh, and on the first run that night I went to shift and the borg and beck 10" press. plate let go during a 6200 RPM shift from 1st to 2nd.

The pictures detail what is left of the clutch, press. plate, starter, and Bellhousing.

I also have some damage to the floorboards and I need to replace the engine block as The ears of the block also got broken off.
Luckily, I was not hurt, as the bellhousing and floorboard took the impact. I have all new Mcloed Clutch Press. plate and Flywheel.
I am still searching for another cast iron a-833 bellhousing.
If anyone has anylead on one, let me know PM me or email -
gocar1@netzero.com

I am also working with the Cox brothers on making a Real Deal Steel Bellhousing - It will be heavy - but it is a much better alternative to blowing up flimisy aluminum ones or rare cast iron pieces. It will retain the original starter location - That is the main reason I did not use a 340 scatter shield - I like the stock look too.

Here are some pics of the engine while it gets put together.

I Added A new explosion proof clutch, 1.6 roller rockers, Valve reliefs in pistions to allow 1.6 rockers, and Lou, I am re- degreeing the MP .528" cam lower towards the 100* mark as per your suggestions.
I also Had my dutra Hyper Pak Extude honed. It's as smooth as a show car's paint job inside there.
Pics Are Below:

I am still working on pounding / massaging the floor back to it's pre pressure plate disaster shape.

I probably will paint and detail under the hood too.

Thanks,
Greg

Thanks v2k -

I really do not know how much I totally have into the engine,

It is the third one I have had in there - I still have the original #'s matching block with 69,000 on it - I pulled that 2 years ago, over the years I have gone throught different cams, headers and carbs, I had to invest almost 900 into this ( third ) engine - That is just the short block, after the second one got wiped out from the clutch explosion.

I dont really know how much horsepower or torque it makes.

I just want to go a bit faster at the strip and try not to break stuff.

Greg

It wasnt designed for 6200 rpm's it really was a matter of time - Cast iron pressure rings will not turn 6200 for long without exploding.

If had known then what i know now I would never had run it in a race condition. - Street would be fine. Other folks had the same problem with the 10" chrysler plate.
