I am not looking for real loud and I'd prefer it was not raspy. I'm putting my headers on next month (maybe) and need to choose something I can tolerate. I don't like the rasp of the current single I have, so I don't want to have the muffler guy just add another one of them.

I used to have a 440 w/single and a dynomax. That was awesome sound, but that was one huge muffler.

The glasspack setups I've heard on youtube all crackle loudly at higher rpm. I'm intending to have the muffler guy put in a balance tube to keep that down, so... any suggestions?

I've been looking at Walker SoundFX, and they don't seem to be loud or raspy. It should have 2 inch duals when done....

I would Y the pipes together and run one big muffler. Duals on a 6 are harder to keep quiet.

Just a cold start with one blip. Sound is OK on the road. Any raspiness is from the cam.

This is a 2-1/4" single.

Maybe I'll get somebody to follow me down the road and video it. Might give better indication of what it will sound like. All I can hear in the car is the dang Holley Red pump trying to chew it's way to the fuel cell, and the intake atttempting to inhale it's way directly to the pump! :lol:

Raspy is unburnt fuel firing off in the exhaust. Air leaks, or too durn rich.

My Duster has dual round turbo mufflers from Superior muffler. From the outside they look like glasspaks.

I only ran it 1 day without a crossover. That quieted it down some. There is a drone under 70 with the 3:23's. Then it quiets out to stock sound.

In my case, I call my current cast iron manifold and single exhaust "raspy" because the sound is high pitched and annoying with unmusical resonances. And yes, I've heard lots of exhausts where the engine wasn't running well and I suppose you could call it "raspy", but that's not what I meant. This engine is very smooth except for idle, where's lumpy because of the cam.

At higher rpm's and light load, it has almost a metallic "ring" to the exhaust. Needless to say, I just HATE the muffler's sound.

You can probably add a glasspak towards the rear to use as a resonator.

As it says at the beginning, I'm switching to headers and duals with a crossover. Just trying to decide on a muffler to use.

I'm leaning towards a Walker SoundFX muffler, after having heard a few sound clips with them. They're supposed to flow well, but reduce the high pitched racket.

I am going to guess there is a magic formula for pipe size and flow at XXXX rpm for a 225 engine. If you run the pipes all the way out the back and put the mufflers way out back near the bumper that might keep the drone out back where you don't hear it.

I think mine scavenges good at 2500rpm. It is not loud banging through the gears. Just a little rumble at idle with the stock cam.

You're probably right about the tuning. Drone, however, is almost always a matter of the physical pipe itself resonating (the pipe vibrates like a tuning fork). Having long straight sections often enables it. I killed a drone in my 93 D250 W/Cummins by putting three unevenly spaced clamps on a long straight section. It's a straight pipe exhaust, with no muffler. It had no drone before we pulled the muffler, but the muffler had developed a hole and a leak, where the exhaust came in the back window. So, it went straight pipe.

In my case, the exhaust noise was obvious, but the "drone" was clearly not exhaust noise. Just clamping the pipe in 3 places with 3 heavy duty muffler clamps re-tuned the pipe so it would not ring at the frequency.
