The slant-6 engine was internally known at Chrysler as the "G engine". There were two block heights: the "LG" (Low G) was used for the 170 cubic inch engine. The "RG" (Raised G) was used for the 225 and 198 cubic inch engines.

Whether this particular engine is worth rebuilding depends on its basic condition and what kind of vehicle you intend to run it in. What is your overall level of experience with vehicles and engines in general?

Its going into a 63 Polara and from a scale of 1-10 I would have to
a 5 , I can change parts diagnose certain things but as far as rebuilding thats
something else. The engine still runs strong .My intention on buying this car was to put a 383 in it until I got the slant six bug .

She runs good , but when I take on long jaunts she still runs good until
I come to an idle and sounds like shes out of tune or running hot.I
changed waterpump , radiator hoses , thermostat , even fuel pump
thinking maybe vapor lock. Someone did mention about checking
valve lash .

If your only issue is rough running when hot, I would start with much smaller and simpler solutions before I decided the motor needed a rebuild. Start by adjusting the valves.

Thanks Reed , was also told to check for valve lash . Makes sense to me
and the only thing I didn't replace was the radiator. Is this a common occurence in these engines as they get old or just in general with engines
period.

Step one will be to get the three books described in this thread as quickly as you can, and read them.

Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread.

Carburetor operation and repair manuals and links to training movies and carb repair/modification threads are posted here for free download.

And yes, you'll want to do a valve adjustment.

1BBL, 2BBL are based on posting counts... the more you post the better you "run".

Keep an open mind and "thick skin"... you need that when running a SL6, especially in a full size vehicle.
