I finally fired up my 62 Valiant EFI. The first few times we ran it the engine would turn off by the key. The last time it did not stop by the key or the battery kill switch? Hmm? I did not change any wiring in the ignition with the engine build. It has HEI with ballast delete.

This might be and electrical question, but not sure?

Also for O2 sensor, I'm running Dual Dutra Duals. Which is typically leaner front or rear?

Cheers,
BT

Are you opening the connection to the field wire when the battery switch is opened up? Breaking only the battery circuit will not turn the alternator off.

If the ignition is still operating, then there is a voltage path that is keeping the HEI alive. Verify that the ignition doesn't get voltage if the key is off, or if the battery switch is turned off while the engine is running.

The alternator is controlled by referrencing a load when it sees voltage. It doesn't shut off until the field coil in the alternator is interrupted.

Hmm, I I should be interrupting the alternator by killing the ignition? Plus it shut off the first 3 times, but not on the 4th. Maybe a defective relay? I should probably hit this with a multi meter, but wiring is my weakest skill...
Since I did not mess with the ignition wiring, my first guess is something failed or the EFI is bridging something. I spent days double checking the wining on it. I am confident I wired it properly, plus it fired right up.

Fixed. The TBI was back feeding the system.
