I looked in the obvious location and did not see this listed so I'll ask the question; "what parts on a Slant 6 will interchange with those on a Mopar Small Block V-8?"

I understand that starters are interchangeable but I wondered about distributors too. I also see 340 valve springs being used but I'm not sure if this requires mods or not. I don't expect that there are many pieces that interchange but wanted to know.

Thanks,

- EM

Small block parts that can be adapted to a slant include solid lifters, valve springs (check installed height), rod bolts, main bearing bolts (make sure they don't block oil passages). The crank snout is the same size as a small block or a big block so balancers can be adapted but may require some machining. The lower timing sprocket is the same as a big block as is the timing chain. The cam sprocket looks similar but has a different offset. A big block Chev also has the same distance between the cam and crank so it is possible to adapt a gear drive from a big Chevy. I have never tried it but have been told that it is possible to adapt main bearing caps from a big block Chev. There are probably more but these are the ones I can think of now.

Alternators interchange, and the 318 BBD can be made to work OK on a slant. Various bolts will interchange. Distributor housings will not interchange, but distributor internals will.

Thanks Exner, Reed. Yes, I meant to exclude external pieces like alternators, etc.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with your acronym "BBD".

Carter BBD (Bald and Ball Double) carburetor. It is an external piece, so it doesn't answer your question. Oil interchanges, as does radiator fluid, and I think thermostats, too.

The oil pressure-relief spring from the big-block is the same. Small block thermostat is the same. The 413,426,440 has the same main bearing journal diameter as the Slant, although I don't know if bearings will interchange. And the starter in my '65 D200 crewcab is the same direct-drive starter used on the 426 Hemi/4-spd cars.
