Does the Erson 280/270 or 270/270 cam use the larger Chrysler lobes or do they rely on the smaller chevy lobe and how doe they compare in perfomance to the comp 264 cam(currently running this cam-not impressed). Thank you.

I went from the Comp 264 to the Erson 280/270. There is a world of difference. You will like it.

Much more torque over a much wider range.

Depending on your choice of lobe separation results may vary, but if you buy the over the counter grind you will have torque over a broad range like Sandy stated, it will not have a problem reving to 6200 rpm and you will have low end grunt as well as the engine pulling all the way up to the top end. I have run this cam with 10:1 SCR and a clifford Hyperpak intake it pulled great in a heavy duster and was very street driveable.
With an OD tranny and 3.55's it didn't have a problem doing a mid 16 at the track and still drove home at 24 mpg highway(long trip)...averaged 21 mpg highway (short trips to work).

I'm currently running it in another duster with an offy intake smaller carb and single large exhaust, I think I will go back to duals on that car to pick up more power but it doesn't have a problem grunting through the gears.

That is a great question!
I have been wondering the same thing. Thanks for the input on driving characteristics.

Another question.
Did anybody advance the cam? or did you install it straight up?

X2 as I'll also be looking for a cam.

The cam I got was ground 4 degrees advanced and I installed it that way.

Would be curious to see if anyone went 108 LSA with a 102-101-ish centerline.

The Erson had the larger chrysler lobe. Not sure if they still do with the company selling and moving. All depends on where they get the blanks. Ask them. I haven't purchased an Erson for at least five years.

I'm also presently running an Erson 280/270, clocked at 102.
The lobes on mine are the same width as the stocker.

Ported & polished (I do my own), 1.70 & 1.44 Stanwood (Engnbldr) valves, .110" off the head, fresh "stock" Erson springs, stock "light" retainers, lightened stock rockers, stock dumbells & pushrods, and notched the stock slugs for the valves.

Still fussing a bit with lash settings, but she's solid & strong right up through 6000, with no float.
(when I want it ..... I shift at 5400 usually)

Car's a middie @ 1420 lbs (see Flyin' Brick in my sig's photo links), running three 1 3/4" SUs.
Can light'em up in any gear at will, due mostly to running our HA/GR class's 6" street tread bias plies.

Not on someone else's thread, I'll post up a link to what little I have over in the Social Corner.
