You need to dissasemble transmmission to remove tailshaft, I have replaced bushing with out special tool. After removing seal use a slide hammer with a small hook, catch it in hole in bushing and pull it out, I reinstalled bushing with a peice of pipe

Done it tons of times. Remove driveshaft, block up trans w/o damaging oil pan, remove trans crossmember, remove speedo cable, remove trans-tailshaft bolts, remove the little oval shaped cover retained by two phillips screws, and the biggest pain, compressing the snap ring inside. Helpful tips; obtain snap ring pliers that look like ones used in servive manual. you might consider having a machine shop replacing the bushing with correct tools. Shift trans into "1st", this will make it easier to get the park rod started first. I use 2 2-3 inch pieces of all thread in the top bolt holes in the trans, so the new gasket stays put, while your fighting with the snap ring.
