Ran into a problem with a mid-70s engine, which had an early crank put into it. It wouldn't fit my '69 904. I'm getting a custom torque converter made so that everything should fit. My question is the flex plate. It's one for the later engine/trans, so I believe it's slightly larger than the one for the early motors.

Is this fine? I understand that if it was the other way around, it just wouldn't fit. But is a small gap between the crank and the flex plate ok?

I think i have an early flex plate that I could let go for $5 = shipping if needed. I will check the morning.

Sure. This could be one of those things where the flexplate I have is fine, but I'm worried it will give me trouble after a few thousand miles.

I have one pre-1968 "small hub" stock flex plate on my wall of 'spare stuff'.

Let me know if you do need it.
