Howdy,

I've got a 1964 Dart Wagon that's got 3 on the tree.

I also have an A833 4 speed that I picked up (along with a hump, floor shift steering column, etc.).

I'd like to do 3-on-the-tree to 4-on-the-floor swap.

Will the A833 bolt up to the stock 3 speed bellhousing?

The A833 came with a Quicktime bellhousing. Will that bolt up to the Slant 6?

Can I use the same clutch/flywheel with the A833?

Thanks!

John

For that year, the BHs are almost certainly different. The early/mid 60s 3spds had a dedicated BH.

You can crawl under and check. The 833 pattern is sort of an asymmetric/oblong trapezoid, while the 3spd is more a rounded off square. Make a few ruler measurements of your 833 at the front face and compare with the BH in the car.

833 BHs are not too hard to find.

Lou is correct.

You will keep the clutch and flywheel and Z-bar and linkage, TOB and clutch fork.

The 3 spd bellhousing will not accept the 4 speed for those years (up to 1974). You will have to check the quicktime bell to see if the pattern is the same as your 3 spd bell (if so then you can use it).

OD 4spd bellhousings are the easiest to get, on this side of the continent the 4.8"IBR 4 speed bellhousings are getting hard to find, they may be easier other areas of the US. (If going to an A-833OD I have a couple of bells I could part with.)

Good luck, it's a worth while change.

Thanks guys!

One more that I think I know the answer to, but...

Is the A833 compatible bellhousing specific to the Slant 6, or will a bellhousing for a small block bolt up to the Slant 6 engine? I think I need a Slant 6 specific 4 speed bellhousing, right?

Thanks again!

John

You need a slantrsix specific bell.

What pattern is the QT bell?

You may be able to leverage the QT bell to get a slant bell....
