Hey all,

well i've almost got this years motor built (is a stock bottom end should be good for 15seconds in the 1/4)

So i'm starting to plan my motor for next year, my truck still has to be street legal and i'm looking for a sub 13second truck just to make dennis poop his pants

The truck weighs 3400lbs as of last year without me in it and a full tank of gas. The truck will weigh less though when i'm done, i am taking some weight saving measures with it and i'm hopeing to hit 3200 with a 1/2 tank or so (3400 total with me in it). Can anyone reccomend a N/A motor for me? i'm talking off the bottle performance here. Gas milage aint a concearn and i wanna beat the living piss of ppl at the track.

I dont think it will be that hard (maybe a 198/2.2L combo done to the nutz with 13:1 compression) an offy 4bbl with a Holley 650dp, i'll be running a 2.5" exhaust system through glasspaks on it but for the track i'll have a full out exhaust dump (this will be along with Hooker Dual outlet headers) I have a hoodscoop on it, i'll be running a cam with over .530 lift and looking for around 290 duration or more, windage tray, electric fan, 130amp alt, ect. This will be backed by an 11" HD clutch with an OD trans and 4.56 sure grip rear (may go higher on gears) for the head i'll do a heavy port and polish job on it, oversize valves (biggest i can fit) 3 angle valve job and boal work.

I have a head thats already done for this years motor but its got .100 milled off so it'll be no good with the 198/2.2 combo.

How does all of this mambo jambo sound?

Justin

Justin,

You can get into the 14s/15s with some fairly serious work on that heavy of a vehicle. For 13s you will need a monster cam (roller? - like 0.700" lift), beastly ported head, and more weight off the truck. It will be a lot of work and trial and error to do it NA. Start with what you have now and see how it runs. This will guide you to the next steps.

Lou

All the stuff you list is fine, the "black magic" is in the head porting and degreeing-in the cam.

Once it is running, test and tune until you get the fastest ET.

Thanks Lou, but is there even that big of a cam for a slant

Doc, thanks for the advice, my father has a buddy that workes at Piston Ring machine shop in Winnipeg here (has been doing engines for 30 years) and i will be getting him to port the head. I think there will be alot of time put into the head but i'm looking for 13's either high or low, but anything lower is a un-nesassary bonus :)

Just a piece of helpful advice....if you plan on running above 12:5.1 compression, you will want to run race fuel (minimum of 104). Otherwise you're asking for some problems. Forged pistons are also a good idea. I haven't done much mod'ing to my slant yet...but I doubt stock type rods and mains will hold up under that kinda pressure. Good luck with your project!

Thanks for the advice guys, but i have decided to stick with a 15second truck, sub 15's means running a roll cage and using a helmet (i already have the 5-point harness's tho)

So 15's is fine with me! and atleast i can keep it streetable!
