I'm convinced that all you /sixers don't set the timing at 0 tdc, so how do you advance it more than the hold down will let you. The only thing I haven't tried is removing the oil filter to loosen the other bolt on the hold down. Will this allow me to advance the timing past where it is now, since I'm at the end of the slot in the hold down? I would really like to stop that embarassing dieseling and maybe release a touch more power.

Yes, loosening that other bolt will allow you more range. You can also pull the dist (mark rotor position) and move it one gear tooth.

Heres a tip, while you have distributor out, replace roll pin on gear with cotter pin, had one fail with the results of a destroyed gear and scored distributor shaft.

thanks for the tips. I going to try that out now. I've had this thing running only for a week or so and am still learning about the /6 motor.
