So I'm getting ready to paint the dash on the '65 and I've managed to remove everything except the trimpiece behind the headlight/wiper switches. I've removed the wiper switch knob -- the allen wrench that fits the heater control lever knobs works.

But, I don't find an allen wrench on the headlight switch knob. I've tugged, cautiously, but don't feel any movement. My "Max Ellery's" repair manual doesn't seem to address this issue.

Knowledgable advise is welcomed.

On my '66 I found the typical scenario where the shaft of the switch is released by pressing a small release button hidden on the switch body. Once pressed, the shaft is released from it's retaining notch and will then slide out of the switch body. Of course, this is easier said than done since you have to be standing on your head while under the dash to get at the release button. If I remember correctly, I did this by 'feel' on my car.

I will look for a reference photo for you and post it up if I can find one.

I don't recall exactly how mine is, but I think it's similar to the arrangement shown above where the button is on the sheetmetal bracket side of the switch. Once the button is pushed, the struggle is over, shaft slides right out. Slide it back in and it should latch automatically.

Ah. Thank you. I'll take a look (and I've become somewhat adept at putting my stocking feet on the headliner and feeling upward between wires for small things).
