I recently rebuilt a 2280 that came off an 84 318. This one has the non adjustable idle baseplate. Running this on a recently rebuilt 6 that had a BBD on it. The truck runs fine, but won't idle. Choke is fully opening, and it runs great once I'm out of the idle circuit. There are no vacuum leaks. Does installing a 2280 from a V-8 on a slant require the base plate with the adjustable idle screws or can this base be converted? Thanks. Mike

Do you mean the idle mixture screws are still buried underneath the concealment plugs?

The biggest problem with putting a 318 carb on a slant is dealing with the different choke linkages.

Also, make sure you are using the correct gasket under the carb.

Thanks Reed. It looks like the holes where the idle screws would go were factory sealed with something (no removable covers). Also-I used the thicker base gasket that was supplied in the kit. This is the one with the large internal opening, and the slots on the outer edges which is the same type used with the BBD. I have a thinner gasket with the same shaped opening, but isn't there an issue with clearance for the throttle plates? Mike

Thin base gasket is correct. It sounds like you need to drill out the concealment plugs covering the mixture screws. Do you have a factory service manual? The procedure on how to remove the concealment plugs is detailed in there.
