I need to know which pin is the +, - side of the coil? One is suppose to be used as a tach...

I googled "mopar hei conversion" clicked on images and found a bunch of diagrams, they might help.

I found this pic...

Circuit labeled A -Pink Wire: Power (12 V) Circuit.

Circuit labeled B -White Wire: Tach Signal for the Tachometer in the Instrument Cluster if equipped.

Circuit labeled C -White with Black stripe Wire: Switching Signal Circuit. This wire (circuit) comes from the Ignition Module.

From this site...

So, if i'm going to use the original wiring harness coil 12v + for the start, run source i connect it to (A) on the coil and (B) on the HEI module and connect (C) from the coil to (C) on the HEI module?

The HEI Electronic Ignition Retrofit How-To is a "little confusing"

If you look at the article it say's:

If you use this combination coil/module assembly, the original coil has three terminal pins:

A) is the coil's primary (+) terminal; gets ignition-on 12v and is connected to module pin "A".

B) is a tachometer signal output. Not used if you don't have a tach.

C) is the coil's primary (-) terminal, goes to module pin "D"

I'm not sure why he's saying module pins "A" and "D"

It looks like he is giving the wiring for the 4 pin HEI module that comes with the coil pack...Is this HEI module usable? Look at the pic

In the article he say's

"The newer style module included with this setup won't work with the Mopar distributor; it's looking for a 0-5 volt square wave, and that's not the kind of signal the Mopar distributor puts out. You can use the early type (4-pin) module—part numbers specified above in the discussion of module selection"

Here's a pic of the setup he's talking about...

The article is a little confusing, especially on this point, and you found the most complicated wiring diagram for the HEI conversion I have seen yet.

I drew up a wiring diagram of how I believe you need to wire the HEI module and the coil you are using. I left out the relay wiring for simplicity, but I do encourage you to use one.

Sorry about the hand shadows. I had to use my phone to take a picture because my scanner is a PITA to use right now.

Thanks for the response and drawing the diagram...Reed

That helps confirm what i was thinking! It will be the same setup i have now but with a higher voltage coil...i gapped the plugs to .050 yesterday

I checked the coil it doesn't have any A,B,C letters from what i read the ignition coil connector has the A,B,C lettering.

I'm going to work on adding a relay soon...

Sounds good. The plug should only go on the coil one way, so use the "A-B-C" on the plug to guide your harness fabrication.

does anyone have a part number for the plug that goes to the coil shown?

Autozone has the Duralast 1065 for $47.99

Oreilly has the ACDelco PT1795 for $35. 99

You can get the ACDelco for $27.80 off ebay...

I made my own connectors and got the coil pack installed! I'll take some pics tomorrow...

This is how i mounted the GM coil pack for now...I'm sure it's better to work it out in more of a horizontial position maybe tucked away somewhere or maybe fabricating your own mounting bracket or seperating the two

Since i didn't have a GM coil connector, what i did was take a smaller probably 3/16" spade connector and cut half of one side off with my dremel and crimped it a little bit so it would plug onto the coil pin nice and tight and covered the terminal with heat shrink tubing

I was able to use the orignal coil to distributor connector...i just crimped it so it would fit snug over the gm male coil connector. I had to cut one of the heat sink cooling fins off and grind it smooth to mount the older 4 pin hei module. I figure this will bump the coil output to 40,000-50,000 volts
